About JPG to PNG Converter

Convert JPG and JPEG images into PNG for workflows that require PNG files or want to avoid another lossy JPEG save. The conversion preserves the decoded image but cannot recover missing detail or create transparent backgrounds from an opaque photo. PNG results may be larger. This page defaults to PNG and accepts other supported input formats with automatic detection; switch the output to JPG or WebP when needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to choose the input format?

No. The converter identifies each image automatically. This page selects the initial output format, and you can change it to PNG, JPG, or WebP without adding your images again. Other supported source formats can be used here too.

Can converting JPG to PNG create real transparency?

No. JPG files do not contain transparency data. Converting to PNG gives you a PNG file, but it cannot recover transparent areas that were never in the JPG.

Why would I convert JPG to PNG?

PNG is useful when a design workflow requires PNG or you want to avoid another lossy JPEG save. It does not restore sharpness or detail that was lost in the original JPG.

Will the PNG file be larger than the JPG?

Usually yes. PNG is lossless, so photo-like images often become larger than compressed JPG files.
